Hastelloy® X (UNS N06002)
Hastelloy® X is a high-temperature, nickel - chromium - iron - molybdenum alloy that is celebrated for its exceptional resistance to oxidation and its remarkable mechanical strength at extreme temperatures. Unlike many other superalloys, Hastelloy X is particularly noted for its resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. It possesses excellent forming and welding characteristics, making it the primary choice for complex structural components in high-heat environments.
At Aries Alloys, we supply Hastelloy X to the aerospace and industrial heating sectors. Whether it’s for a jet engine combustion chamber or a high-temperature furnace baffle, our material is selected for its ability to maintain its shape and integrity under constant thermal stress up to 2200° F (1200° C).
Exceptional Thermal Attributes
- Superior Oxidation Resistance: Remains stable and resists scaling in temperatures up to 2200° F, outperforming many other nickel-based superalloys.
- Resistance to Carburization & Nitriding: One of the most effective alloys for resisting the absorption of carbon and nitrogen, which can lead to metal embrittlement.
- Excellent Fabricability: Despite its high-temperature strength, it is surprisingly easy to weld and cold-form, allowing for the construction of intricate aerospace parts.
- Stability in All Atmospheres: Performs consistently in oxidizing, reducing, and neutral atmospheres, providing versatility for various industrial furnace types.
- High Creep-Rupture Strength: Engineered to resist deformation under high-stress conditions at elevated temperatures.
Technical Profile & Composition
The Balanced Matrix:
The effectiveness of Hastelloy X comes from its precise balance of Chromium (20.5-23.0%), Iron (17-20%), and Molybdenum (8-10%). This combination creates a matrix that is not only heat-resistant but also incredibly stable over long periods of service, preventing the "sagging" or warping often seen in lesser materials.
Mechanical Capabilities:
- Density: 8.22 g/cm3
- Non-Magnetic: Remains non-magnetic across its entire operating range.
- Ductility: Retains high ductility even after long-term exposure to high temperatures.
- Corrosion Defense: Provides good resistance to aqueous corrosion and is highly resistant to stress-corrosion cracking.
