Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V)

Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V)

Titanium Grade 5 is the most widely utilized titanium alloy across the globe, accounting for roughly half of the total titanium consumption in existence today. Unlike the commercially pure grades, Grade 5 is an "Alpha-Beta" alloy, formulated with 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium. This chemical combination creates a material with an extraordinary strength-to-weight ratio, making it the primary choice for high-stress structural components.

At Aries Alloys, we recognize that Grade 5 is the backbone of modern engineering. We maintain a high-precision inventory of Ti-6Al-4V, ensuring that every bar, plate, and forged component meets the extreme mechanical demands of the aerospace, defense, and medical sectors.

The Grade 5 Performance Edge
  • High Tensile Strength: Significantly stronger than Grade 2 or Grade 4 titanium, offering mechanical properties that rival many high-strength steels at nearly half the weight.
  • Excellent Creep Resistance: Capable of maintaining its structural integrity and resisting permanent deformation at temperatures up to 350°C (660°F).
  • Fracture Toughness: Offers superior resistance to crack propagation, which is vital for flight-critical aerospace parts.
  • Corrosion Immunity: While optimized for strength, it still provides excellent protection against seawater, marine atmospheres, and a variety of industrial chemicals.
  • Biocompatible Excellence: Widely used in the medical field due to its ability to integrate with human bone and its resistance to bodily fluids.
Engineering & Technical Data

Alloy Composition: The "6-4" designation refers to the addition of Aluminum (6%) to stabilize the Alpha phase and Vanadium (4%) to stabilize the Beta phase. This dual-phase microstructure allows the material to be heat-treated for even higher strength.

Mechanical Capabilities:
  • High fatigue strength and stiffness.
  • Low thermal expansion coefficient.
  • Excellent power-to-weight ratio for rotating machinery.
  • Good weldability and fabricability for an alloy of its strength class.
